Church of St. Tysilio
This beautiful historic church is situated at the top of a hill to the North of the village. The village name of Bryneglwys means Church hill in Welsh. The church has a faithful congregation, which meets for a weekly service every Sunday at 11:30am.
The building has a chapel area, which is dedicated to the Yale family. It is used to host regular functions and meetings for the community.

Cymdeithas Canolfan Ial Association
The Canolfan Ial project was started in 2019 when the community council gave back their license to occupy, which was given to them in 2014 when the school closed. The Church in Wales believed that the building was theirs but it was returned to Mary Yale’s possession when it ceased to be a school and she kindly gave it to the Bryneglwys community. A group of villagers formed a charity, Cymdeithas Canolfan Ial Association (or CCIA for short) with one mission only, to turn the old school into a village hall.
With a great deal of help from a Bryneglwys lawyer, whose time was given freely, the charity took ownership of the building and is registered with the land registry as owners. So now the building belongs to the village no matter who the current trustees are.
Since then we have spent our time applying for grants and have had some success, raising nearly £400,000 for the renovation of the old school so that it can become a community hub. Most of the money was Levelling Up Funding, part of a much larger grant to Denbighshire County Council, but the Clocaenog Wind Farm project has also donated £65,000.
We have appointed a project manager who has worked tirelessly to ensure a detailed tender form was put out on Sell 2 Wales, a condition of receiving the grant. Three companies all put in excellent bids and these were evaluated by DCC and our project manager and on their advice a company with a base in Denbigh, Adever, have been chosen by the trustees.
Adever will remove the small amount of asbestos left in the building on August 1st and commence working on the building on August 5th. Work should take 20 weeks and we have a completion date of December 14th, perhaps a little late to organise a Christmas party but maybe New Year’s Eve if all goes smoothly!
When finished the building will have a cafe to be manned by volunteers when you walk through the front door and a large hall for activities and functions. This will enable us to divide the hall into two smaller rooms for smaller groups to hire. The toilets are also being completely refurbished and landscaping outside will be completed after the building work has finished.
We are hoping to be able to host wedding receptions of up to 60 people (seated) in the future, as the kitchen will be a commercial kitchen that can be used by caterers.
We hope residents will love their village hall and will start to think of lots of activities they would like to see it used for.
